From the publishers...
From time to time
Creator publishes lists of best selling repertoire as submitted by publishers. Here's what that means: the titles on these lists are there because the public, for whatever reason (and we hope it is because of quality of music, not just marketing) has purchased the titles in sufficient quantity that it rises to the top of the publisher's sales charts.
The following list, of instrumental best sellers, was published in the September/October, 1996, issue. What does that mean? It is an "old" list. Some of the publishers on this list (like Descant Publications) don't even exist today, having been sold to another, larger publisher (in Descant's case, Fred Bock Music Company). But, as Creator 's editor Bob Burroughs is fond of saying: "People never ask me 'what's new?' They ask me 'what works.'" These pieces work...in large part because the market (that's you, folks) have validated them by buying them. That means that you can be assured that they will still work today.
You may have to do some research to find these titles, but any full service music store (like Pine Lake Music (800-241-3667) or Music Mart (800-545-6204)) should be able to locate the item you want. One other source for instrumental music is David E. Smith (800-672-2733).
