Good Morning.

Did you do anything special yesterday for Father's Day? If you've been a Monday Morning Email reader for some time you know that I don't personally think we should "celebrate" Hallmark holidays in worship, but I'm pretty sure that most churches in the US did something for Mother's Day, and where does that leave the fathers when their day comes around? Here's something that I've done at the last four churches I've served: POPS Sunday. This is a...ahem...clever play on words, and allows my musicians to present their favorite anthems, bell pieces, etc. in a way that wraps up the "school year season." It is particularly useful if your choir or other musical groups take the summer off (but you all know how I feel about that too, right?), but it also serves as a "music Sunday"" if you don't have one already on the schedule. Festive, but focused upon worship, rather than Hallmark. I think it is an elegant solution to a dilemma. What do you think? Send me an email and tell me how you deal with the Hallmark holidays...
