Good Morning
A couple of inter-related bits of trivia: Today is Pearl Harbor Day. I remember my parents telling me what they were doing when they heard the news (on the radio, of course). I saw a story on the internet last week about the sole surviving American veteran of World War I, and I am reminded that we are losing veterans of World War II at the rate of hundreds, if not thousands per day. Even though my generation has had its share of wars, they seem to pale in comparison with the carnage of my parents' generation. My wish and prayer for Christmas is for true peace on earth, and good will among all people.
Oh...and one more thing before we get on with things...It is raining in California. Hard. Woo Hoo! That may not seem like much to you all, but we here are in a severe drought situation. I've heard that the "storm door" may be open during this predicted El Nino winter, and that would truly be a blessing to those of us who live in this overcrowded state.
Just a few items of business this week...
- Bob Burroughs knee replacement surgery was successful! If you would like to write Bob a note of encouragement, his email address is bobburroughs (at) mac.com.
- Update for last week's (11/30) MME! Last week we highlighted Judy Hunnicutt'sService of Lessons and Music for Easter I was supposed to tell you that I recently got a nice resource from Augsburg Fortress that might serve well in such a service: Bach: Chorales from the St. John Passion. Edited by Thomas Pavlechko, this new publication uses the St. John chorales as responses to eleven different readings. Check it out.
- Take our survey this week! I messed up and forgot to tell you about our new survey last week. So please take it this week so that we get a good representation of your opinions. This is the last week for the topic: Your church is...? Please go to our home page and take the survey, and check back at the end of the week to see what the results are.
- Has the Christmas season got you frantic? Many years ago, my friend Dean McIntyre of the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship wrote this little Christmas lament (set to the tune of O Little Town of Bethlehem) which addresses that situation. Please note the copyright restrictions.
Did you listen to the new the Reverence channel programs on the Creator Leadership Network last week? The reaction to our new streaming audio service continues to be overwhelmingly positive. If you haven't listened, please do so. If you have, please tell your friends. Thanks.
Listen to Creator Tech Talk with Wade Odum on Mondays at 4pm (all times Pacific) and Just Pure Laughs for an hour of clean comdey hosted by Dan McGowan on Tuesdays at noon for great information, and a laugh or twelve...just click the Reverence Channel graphic on the new website to hear the audio stream.
Standard reminder about the Reverence Channel player: First, the initial time you use it, you may need to "refresh" (F5 key) once in order to get the audio. You'll know you will get the audio if you see the colored buttons (green for play, red for stop, and brown for mute...plus the two purple buttons which control the volume...). There is no need to hit the play button in most cases, the audio will start automatically once the player completely loads. Second, if you use a mac, you may need to download one or more programs: Silverlight (for the player) and Firefox (the preferred browser). Look for links to download these free programs on the home page and programs page.
